Project Honey Bees wants everyone to be able to browse our jewelry and gifts, adopt a Queen Bee, and complete an order without barriers. We work to make projecthoneybees.com usable by people of all abilities, including shoppers who use screen readers, keyboard-only navigation, magnification, or other assistive technology.
Conformance standard
We design and review our store against the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA, the internationally recognised standard for accessible websites, and against the requirements of the Americans with Disabilities Act. Meeting a standard is not a one-time event — accessibility is part of how we build and update the site.
What we do
- Keyboard access — menus, the product galleries, the cart, and the checkout can be reached and used with the Tab, Arrow, and Enter keys alone.
- Image descriptions — meaningful photos carry text alternatives, and purely decorative artwork is hidden from screen readers so it does not interrupt the page.
- Clear forms — every field in checkout, contact, and account pages has a visible label, and problems are explained in text rather than by colour alone.
- Readable text — we aim for colour combinations that pass WCAG contrast requirements, and layouts that reflow so you can enlarge text without losing content.
- Visible focus — the element you are on is clearly marked while moving through a page with the keyboard.
- Motion and animation — decorative animation, such as the celebration on the order confirmation page, follows your device's reduced-motion setting.
- Ongoing checks — we test new pages with a keyboard and a screen reader, and review mobile layouts so nothing is cut off or too small to use.
Assistive technology and browsers
Our pages are built to work with the assistive technology people actually use — VoiceOver on iPhone and Mac, TalkBack on Android, and NVDA or JAWS on a computer — in current versions of Safari, Chrome, Edge, and Firefox.
Services we do not control
Some parts of the shopping experience are provided by other companies inside our pages. Payment is handled on secure Stripe screens, and order updates, reviews, and some marketing tools come from third-party services. We ask each of these providers to meet the same accessibility standards, and we report problems to them when we find one, but we cannot always fix their interfaces ourselves. If something that belongs to one of these services blocks you, tell us and we will escalate it and find you another way to complete your purchase.
Known limitations
We are still working toward full conformance. At the moment you may find:
- Some older product photographs whose description does not yet convey everything the picture shows.
- A small number of pages and images carried over from our previous store that have not yet been reviewed for alt text and heading structure.
- Some video and photo customer reviews submitted by shoppers that have no caption or transcript of their own.
Each of these is on our list, and we fix them as we find them — which is exactly why your report matters.
Tell us if something doesn't work
If any part of this site is hard or impossible to use, please let us know. We would like to hear what you were trying to do, the page or feature involved, the device and assistive technology you were using, and what happened.
- Email support@projecthoneybees.com
- Call or text (785) 236-5880
- Use the contact form
We aim to reply within two business days. If you ask, we will give you the same information or complete the same purchase in an alternative format — for example by email or over the phone — while we work on the underlying problem.
Enforcement
If you are not satisfied with how we handle your accessibility feedback, you may raise the matter with the appropriate authority, such as the United States Department of Justice, which handles complaints under the Americans with Disabilities Act. We would much rather hear from you first and fix it.
